Jesus loves me this I hope
and I hope you’re not offended that I didn’t say I know
and I know that I’m supposed to say what you expect to hear
but I’m tired of that
and hope is part of faith and hope and love
isn’t that enough?

Jesus loves me this I hope
and I know that may leave you with the impression that I doubt
but I hope that hope’s enough for you not to cast me out
for my hope is based on nothing less than
Jesus love and faithfulness
just sometimes I wish there were other evidence
of Jesus love

Jesus loves me this I know
but the only evidence is that the Bible tells me so
wouldn’t it be great if there were other ways to know
that Jesus loved me
because his people let it show
and the world would know that we were his disciples by our love

Jesus loves the prostitute
Jesus loves the addict
Jesus loves the smelly homeless man
Jesus loves the refugee
and I put my hope in his love for me

Yes Jesus loves me
I know Jesus loves me
I hope Jesus loves me
the Bible tells me so
